This means that, in the hypothetical two-model system, it wouldn't be possible to buy, say, a new silver-plated Selmer horn without springing for a Supreme. For a tenor, that would mean close to $12k. I think Selmer would want to avoid such a costly constriction of choice. However a good mouthpiece that gives you that warm soft edge tone instantly can help a lot ofcourse. A Brilhart Ebolin often gets me real close. However I had to try quiet a number of them to find the right one that just has it. My Carlsbad era Ebolin 3* floats. between the warm Lester tone and the Getz tone with the right reed combination.The mute has lot of space inside, so your hands have room and it's easy to play all notes even palm and side keys. In my experience, the Mark III is the most powerful and clearest of all FG models. Very direct sound. I prefer something a little more complex, so I favor the Mark IV over the Mark III.
